Meet the Lady of the House

DEBI ALBERT started her company, Clarity Home Inspections, not to only perform home inspections at the time of purchase, but also to educate clients about taking care of their homes. For information, call (404) 304-0591, or e-mail debi@clarityinspections.com. Albert answers Julep's Four Questions.

1. What book, movie, TV show or other medium are you dying to share and why?

In Elizabeth Gilbert's book Eat, Pray, Love she visits a medicine man who answers her question of "how to have a lasting experience of G-d" by showing her a picture. It was a sketch he'd drawn of an androgynous human figure, standing up, hands clasped in prayer with four legs and no head. In place of the head was only a wild foliage of ferns and flowers, and over the heart a small, smiling face.

"To find the balance you want, this is what you must become. You must keep your feet grounded so firmly on the earth that it's like you have four legs instead of two. That way, you can stay in the world. But you must stop looking at the world through your head. You must look through your heart, instead."

This excerpt explains how I strive to live and connect with my surroundings, whether it's family and friends or enjoying the outdoors.

2. If you could have brunch with one biblical or historical Jewish figure, who would it be and why?

Moses de Leon, a Jewish writer believed to have published the Zohar, the foundational text of Kabbalah. I would love to grasp the deeper meaning of the mysticism within Judaism to become more aware of my internal self. It is often overlooked, although we are bound to it.

3. What is your favorite Jewish food?

Potato latkes with applesauce. They're not just for Chanukah!

4. Nu? (So?)

WHAT? A Jewish female home inspector? Yep, that's right! I'm anything but a "typical" Jewish girl! Running my business, Clarity Home Inspections (www.ClarityInspections.com), is a full-time job between performing the inspections, creating monthly newsletters and assisting with education coordination for American Society of Home Inspectors. But I still find time to spend with my friends, foster dogs for Atlanta Lab Rescue (www.labrescueofatlanta.com), travel, and enjoy the outdoors! I'm working to educate people on their homes. It's more than about obtaining a home inspection at the time of purchase; it's about taking care of your investment and being aware of the smaller issues before they become major ones. I feel my place is to help lead this initiative within our community to make our homes and environment healthier. By understanding the basics you'll feel empowered to protect what's around you. Re-energize your spirit by educating yourself. For me, a day crawling across trusses in a hot attic is better than any other day in an office behind a desk! Live through your heart — it's amazing. I am enjoying every moment of it!
