Four Questions

The Radio Guy

Jason Cofar, a Fort Lauderdale native, has been working at 680 The Fan, where he's the radio station's executive producer, since it relaunched in September 2000. He's also the producer for the afternoon drive-time show with hosts Buck Belue, the legendary UGA quarterback, and John Kincade, a longtime sports broadcaster. Cofar answers Julep's Four Questions:

1. What book, movie, television show or other medium are you dying to share and why?

I love TV. I am a TV junkie. Most people assume that all I do is watch sports. My girlfriend, Melissa, says I watch sports way too much, but I love garbage TV. I know at 31 years old I probably should not be watching MTV or VH1, but I can't get enough of that mindless television. Throw in E! and HBO and I am set. One show that I think needs to be seen by everyone is Entourage. A movie that I have to watch any time it is on is American History X with Edward Norton. A very powerful movie that everyone should see.

2. If you could have brunch with one biblical or historical Jewish figure, who would it be?

There are so many jokes made about Jewish athletes and the notion that there are so few in sports. I like to say it's about quality and not quantity. Red Auerbach, Sandy Koufax, Larry Brown and David Stern, just to name a few. I'd love to sit and break bread with these guys and hear how they worked to become successful.

3. What is your favorite Jewish food and why?

I love macaroons and matzah. I could eat either of those foods any day of the week. Throw some jelly or butter on the matzah and there is no better snack.

4. Nu? (So?)

I'll take shorts, flip-flops and a T-shirt over a button-down and tie any day of the week. I am laid-back most of the time but am serious and focused once I step into the radio station. 680 The Fan is like a big puzzle, and without all the pieces it can't be completed. We have had great success at 680 The Fan, but you can never rest on your laurels. My mom taught me to always strive for more. Throughout my seven years at 680 The Fan I have met some great people and have attended some amazing events. I take it seriously and never lose sight of what I am supposed to be doing. It's easy to get lost in the moment when you are interviewing the likes of Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, Dan Marino, Hershal Walker and Tony Gwynn. If you forget that you are interviewing these guys as part of your job you lose focus. I could write a book about my life.
