Print Such a Catch- Sam Schlam

Sam Schlam, 30, started his own company, Shirts by Sam, so that he could sell a product he believes in. With a client list of more than 100, Sam's T-shirt design company has grown out of his garage and into a 2,500-square-foot production facility. Check out his Web site at www.shirtsbysam.com.

1. What are you looking for in a mate?

I'm looking for a modern-day Southern Belle, I'd like her to have good family values and an entrepreneurial attitude that I find attractive in women. (Gators will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.)

2. What are your best qualities?

I try to find the good in any situation, or people I'm surrounded with.

3. How do you spend your spare time?

Seeing as though my business is labor intensive, I like to relax in my spare time. BBQs, golf, card games and hanging out with my dog, Moe Love, are some of the things I find myself doing.

4. What is your guilty pleasure?

Reality TV. I'll give any show three episode to hook me.

5. Etc.?

I started to sell T-shirts to sororities and fraternities when I was a freshman at UGA. After I left Athens, I tried various sales jobs. I always liked sales because I'm good at communicating. However, the only jobs I could find usually led to a product or service I didn't want to put my name on. After my father passed away in 2002, I took some advice from my grandfather. He told me to learn a trade and provide my own product. And this is how I decided to start Shirts By Sam. Naturally, T-shirts were the obvious products for me. I bought a very basic setup out of the Sunday classifieds and started to print shirts in my garage. I'm now in a 2,500-square-foot facility off Peachtree Industrial. Over the last four years I have grown my business to a client list of more than 100, ranging from wedding planners to Taco Bell, and I'm proud to say that they think my customer service is my best asset.
