Meet a 'Pet-Friendly' Realtor

Dixie Schantz and Louie

When Dixie Schantz, a Realtor with Metro Brokers/GMAC Real Estate, got into real estate two years ago, she decided to take her love for animals and her experience training dogs and birds and create a specialty niche.

"I've always loved animals," says the Sandy Springs resident and Temple Kehillat Chaim and ORT Atlanta member. "Ninety percent of my family, friends and colleagues own pets and have special needs when considering a move."

Schantz helps clients in the market for a new home look for features such as fenced-in yards, and she gives them fact sheets on what to expect when moving with their pets. She also tells clients what to consider when showing their homes, such as finding a room for the animals to safely remain when potential buyers are coming into the home.

Pet-loving clients of Schantz's also can expect to meet her little dog, Louie, in a specially made Metro Broker outfit that includes a business card holder. Schantz's expertise extends beyond pets, too, as she's received a special designation from the Seniors Real Estate Specialist Council of the National Association of Realtors.

Reader Pets of the Month

Julep reader Suzette Cohen wants you to meet "our furry grandcreatures, Max and Gretzky. Gretzky became a part of our family this past May, after being rescued from a Dumpster as a 6-week-old puppy. Though Max is a 14-year-old, spoiled-rotten feline, he has adjusted to the antics of a frisky and spirited puppy. Gretzky attends medical school with his owner, Zach, and will be known as Dr. Gretzky in three and a half years when he graduates. Max actually looks forward to school breaks when Gretzky comes home to torment him. When they think we are not looking, the two of them actually enjoy spending quiet moments together."
